Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Our Fort is a port-style wine with a nose full of intense concentrated black currant and cherry aromas. Full-bodied and firm, the palate is crammed with luscious black fruit flavors, dried fruits, smoke, wood, and cocoa.
Awards
Gold Medal Winner, 2014 Grand Harvest Awards; Gold Medal Winner, 2014 Virginia Governor's Cup Competition
Vineyard Notes
Chambourcin grapes were sourced from Colucci Vineyards in Upperville, Virginia.
Winemaker Notes
Chambourcin grapes were de-stemmed, crushed, and macerated for three weeks under temperature controlled conditions, then transferred to temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for four weeks for primary fermentation and aging for thirteen months. Cocoa nibs were added during the ninth month of the aging process, prior to the addition of Ruby Red Brandy. The Fort was bottled in December 2013 and June 2014.
Food Pairing Notes
The Fort is particularly good with blue-veined and richly flavored soft cheeses and also pairs well with berry desserts, dark chocolate, and cigars. It also makes for an excellent after dinner drink.

Spent an afternoon with a friend at the winery and fell in love with is "Port". It is extremely drinkable on its own. Rich and velvety. Four days later I am still tasting it. It was good with some semi-sweet chocolate -- but really, I could sit out and share a bottle and just be happy.

This wine is a favorite for sure! It's so drinkable on its own, and I often have a glass in the evenings to unwind. It's rich in flavor, smooth, and absolutely amazing.

This wine is excellent with semi-sweet or dark chocolate. Take a bite of the chocolate and then a sip of the wine...heavenly. Sometimes I find port-style wines offputting, but this one is very drinkable as others have mentioned.

Live a little goblet of Fort with a chunk of dark chocolate for a treat. Smooth and tasty, essence of rich raisins. Crave this on a cold evening.

I loved red and tried port once and decided I like it since then I have tasted many ports looking for my favorite and Fort is that. I drink it alone or with cheese chocolate or just a sipping wine went I want to enjoy the wine! I have given to my friends who always fall in love with it as well. Not need a lot and does not leave me with a headache

Excellent wine. I am a port wine fan and this is an amazing port. It is great as a dessert wine, or just a wine to sip at the end of a long day.

Great wine, with a great taste. Would recommend if you like wines that are a little sweeter

This wine breaks the mold for "Port style". So smooth but not heavy. While great paired with chocolate, sipped alone it will make you believe the chocolate is in the bottle.

Great, easy drinking wine. Perfect with dark chocolate or simply on its own. I picked up several bottles when we were at WABR last and plan to pick up a few more the next time we visit.

Very tasty, easy drinking port. I am thinking of using it for a sauce to go with meat. The pairing with chocolate is just wonderful.

An excellent port! Goes well with just about any dessert, and is a great dessert by itself; a great wine, even for those who traditionally don't think they like ports. Highly recommended!

I love port style wines, and this one is rich and complex without being sweet and overbearing. If you get the chance to try it with a little chocolate you'll enjoy a whole new set of flavors.

Despite being a rich and decadent Port-style wine, Fort goes fairly quickly in my household. It's especially satisfying when paired with dark chocolate. Fort is a top quality Port-style wine.

I had a wine tasting at Bull Run. I liked this so I bought a few bottles. As others have said it is nice on it's own, or with chocolate, or I like port with cheese. I gave a bottle to some friends and they called me the night they opened it, to say how excellent it was.
