Featuring a beautiful ruby color, the 2018 GSM smells like the holidays, with scents of pine and toasted wood on the nose, alongside raspberries, rhubarb, cassis, vanilla extract, cinnamon and baking spice. The palate is rich with dark berry flavors such as raspberries, blueberries and blackberry currant, with a velvety, full-bodied mouth feel. On the back palate is just a hint of black licorice and anise seeds.
The grapes for the 2019 Barrel Select Syrah were destemmed, crushed and
fermented for two weeks in open bins, with punch down performed twice a
day. The fermented grapes were then pressed off the skins, settled into the tank,
and racked into barrels. The wine was aged for 12 months in neutral and new
American Oak before bottling.
Food Pairing Notes
The 2018 GMS is the perfect addition to any holiday dinner table, pairing well with meats such as roast turkey, baked ham or prime rib, as well as Italian marinara dishes like lasagna, rich cheeses like Irish cheddar, Havarti and Brie, and desserts like berry pies and holiday cookies.
