Careful additional aging of this wine has enhanced its richness significantly. A nose of dried berries and smoke define the highly aromatic wine. Flavors of black raspberry, plum, black walnut, and earth round out a balanced, medium body.
De-stemmed, crushed, and macerated for six weeks in stainless steel under temperature controlled conditions with frequent pump overs. Fermentation and aging occurs in 100% American Oak barrels and aged for 24 months. Wine was racked/returned throughout the aging process to ensure optimum oxygenation. The 2014 Meritage was bottled on December 3, 2016.
Food Pairing Notes
The 2014 Meritage Reserve pairs perfectly with lamb, duck confit, chanterelles, or filet mignon.
